Lars Larson: On Rob Reiner’s death

Someone slit the throats of legendary Hollywood actor, director, and producer Rob Reiner and his wife this weekend in their Los Angeles home.

Americans knew Reiner for producing movies like “A few good men” and his time playing “meathead” on television’s “All in the family”.

Now, police investigating the murders have focused on Reiner’s son, Nick who had battled drug addiction for some time.

I didn’t agree with Reiner’s politics, but I enjoyed the several times I interviewed him on my talk show and I appreciated his willingness to do interviews with someone he knew disagreed with him.,

But no matter who police eventually charge in his horrific crime, I think there’s a lesson in this family tragedy.

Politicians tell us endlessly that if only we gave enough money to drug treatment, we could get a handle on a problem that kills tens of thousands of Americans every year.

The Reiner family supported son Nick and sent him to rehab time and again.

The father and son even teamed up to make a movie about celebrity and drug addiction.

Reiner’s daughter Romy found the bodies this weekend and told police a family member likely did the crime and that he’s “dangerous”.
