Someone, please run for U.S. Senate

It appears that there is a huge slate of candidates for Governor (Senator Christine Drazan, Representative Ed Diehl, County Chair Danielle Bethel, social media’s David Medina and possibly NBA star Chris Dudley and MMA fighter Chael Sonnen).   Yet, the Governor’s race is not at the top of the ballot — Oregon’s United States Senator is at the top.

It is one of the most important and visible races in Oregon.  It remains empty.

Incumbent Oregon Congressman Jeff Merkley is vulnerable.  He delayed his re-announcement last year.  He has low name recognition for someone who has been in office for nearly two decades.  He has few signature bills he has passed.

Someone needs to run for this position.

In past elections, having weak candidates at the top only hurts all the races down the ballot.
