Oregonian article touts importance of local 250 celebrations

Oregon250 Resolution,

This weekend, The Sunday Oregonian featured a wonderful article by Michael Auslin, the author of the book “National Treasure: How the Declaration of Independence made America”.

As the headline above shows, Auslin made a passionate call for America to make the 250th American Anniversary a top priority.

The above photo shows the Freedom Plane created for this very occasion.

This special airplane will be carrying seven founding-era documents to various cities across America. Among the documents are George Washington’s Oath of Allegiance and the Treaty of Paris. This is the first time they have traveled outside Washington, D.C.

This is spectacular. A rare historic moment. We hope the plane comes to Oregon.

The big anniversary is just over 100 days away.

Near the end, Auslin made his statement, “While many still remember the fireworks over the national mall or the tall ship in New York Harbor, the bicentennial was most effective when celebrated locally.”

He is so right.

There is a special power and meaning in celebrating America’s birthday in local events.

This is why the Oregon 250 Resolution honoring America’s 250th Birthday by recognizing 15 select American historical achievements is so important. This Oregon-based resolution allows us to celebrate locally.

We encourage people to read the Oregon 250 Resolution and share it with others.  We also encourage people to help us pass this Resolution in cities and counties across Oregon.

Join the party!
