House Bill 4177 was a really bad bill from the 2026 Legislative Session.

The bill legalized back-room deals by making it easier  for local government elected officials to meet behind closed and in private in various circumstances.

Almost every single Democrat State Senator and State Representative voted for this bill.

The media launched a very strong opposition voice against the measure with 48 different news organizations joining in.

The Taxpayers Association also opposed the measure.  The more elected officials meet in private, the more likely they will use the opportunity to decide legislation without involving the public.

Governor Kotek vetoed the bill this last week.

It is likely that she vetoed this bill only because of it comes so close to her re-election time.
