When even far-left liberals declare government ineffective and way too expensive, you know we’re in trouble.

Consider the condemnation offered up by the very liberal Steve Novick who sits on the Portland City council.

Voters blew up the old 5 member council and replaced it with a dozen members.

Then they voted on how much money each council member gets to staff his or her office. They settled on 1.45 million dollars…EACH!

In a KGW news interview, Novick points out that’s twice the budget of Denver’s city council…3 times the budget of Minneapolis  and bigger than the much bigger city of Seattle.

I’d point out that the new, bloated city council seems incapable of making better decisions.

They keep their own fat personal budgets…while cutting cops in a city where emergency call response times have doubled lately…and a top priority calls gets police on the scene in 20 minutes…and average response times push half an hour.

But each of the dirty one dozen city council members enjoys a well-funded entourages if that makes you feel any better.
