Lessons for Oregon from Florida elections

There was once a time when Florida’s election agency was the national example of failure.

Now they are considered the gold standard.

Florida has been able to count and tally most of the votes by election night.  Compare that to California or Oregon which can take weeks in some races.  Florida has also seen expanded voter turn-out — even among minorities.

Florida has banned ballot trafficking and paying people to collect ballots.

In one Florida county, the Election Supervisor invited the public to come for a live demonstration on how the voting machines work and to watch the staff validates ballots.  This is a huge step in transparency.

These are lessons Oregon should learn from.
