Blue Oregon tries to defend Merkely tax record

Yesterday, our good blog friends at Blue Oregon disagreed with my article on Rep. Jeff Merkley voting to raise billions in new taxes. They say that I “fail to mention the tax breaks that Jeff Merkley helped shepherd through in 2007.”

I suppose if you try to raise billions in new taxes you can call yourself merciful by handing out a few million to select target groups. Rep. Jeff Merkley grew the state budget by 21%, and now we are supposed to thank him for not growing the budget 22%? Interestingly enough, Rep. Jeff Merkley held a press conference during the 2005 Legislative Session attacking the concept of billions of dollars of runaway tax breaks that are poking holes in our state budget.

I thought tax and spend liberals were supposed to be proud of their votes. Are those tax votes a little unpopular outside of Merkley’s Portland district nieghborhood?

This Merkley guy is a fool and a dolt.
    Plain and simple.
I wonder if he is proud of that?

  • CRAWDUDE

He’ll have to spend the majority of his time defending his record during the election. I don’t give him too much of a chance unless Smith starts to trip over himself.

I think Merkely will drop out before the election starts.

Its funny now that liberals actually think they can call themselves anti-tax or even tax cutters.

Thats all they did this session. Spend record sums of revenue and create new nickle and dime taxes to spend some more. To call a few tax credits which require enough income tax liability to use a CPA who would research them a tax cut is ridiculous.

The left in Oregon is bragging about their corporate welfare as proof of tax cutting. I say we point to their special interest pandering and let the public know.

When its the voters of Oregon’s tax bill – they raise it. When its the pet industries or businesses that liberals like the subsidize it with your tax hike.

I see Merkeley is posted as a Traitor at CongressionalTraitors.com
