Obama to announce executive action on immigration Thurs night

The White House is announcing that “tomorrow night, President Obama will address the nation to lay out the executive actions he’s taking to fix our broken immigration system.”

The Washington Post found yesterday that President Obama had flip-flopped on using executive action on illegal immigration, and gave him their Upside-Down Pinocchio rating for his “clear but unacknowledged ‘flip-flop’ from a previously-held position.” The article recalled Obama’s Jan 2013 comment “I think it is important to remind everybody that, as I said I think previously, and I’m not a king. I am the head of the executive branch of government. I’m required to follow the law.”

Obama’s about to act in a way similar to the way Reagan and G.H.W. Bush did!

Let the gnashing of teeth begin!

I’m always a little suspicious of liberals who claim they are following in the footsteps of Reagan.

There are some big differences here. Reagan/Bush executive orders just affected the spouses/children of people who were granted amnesty under the Immigrant Reform and Control Act (IRCA) that was passed by Congress in 1986. The problem was that because the IRCA created a situation where the children/spouses of people legalized under the act weren’t eligible and would have had to have been deported. Congress was working on a fix which was eventually passed in 1990. Reagan’s (and later Bush’s) EOs were intended to create a stop gap until Congress passed a fix to the IRCA.

What Obama is doing is more along the lines of unilaterally enacting something akin to the IRCA without congressional approval. As he has himself stated numerous times over the past 4 years, this is not something the President has authority to do because he is not an emperor, monarch, or dictator.

The Emperor will be shooting himself in the foot if he goes through with his plan. He needs to listen to the voters who ousted his Dem buddies, and will be extremely lucky if someone does not take him out. There are many outraged citizens out there.

Don’t look now…but behind the scenes the Obama Administration and/or activist judges have been quietly dismantling our immigration enforcement. Obama’s gut instincts are not those of most Americans, who even if they are not churchgoers have a bottomline of respect for cultural standards. It’s becoming clearer that Obama is a Third World transplant, with a comparable lack of moral standards. In the Third World it’s “go with the flow.”
