Lars Larson: We need to take a second look at the 14th Amendment

The 14th Amendment is very important to this country. One of the things it specified is that if you are born in this country (and here’s the important part) “subject to the jurisdiction of the United States” you automatically become a United States citizen.

The fact is if one of your parents is an American citizen and you are born here, you’re a citizen. The problem is, that interpretation has been perverted over the decades. We’ve come to understand that if an illegal alien stumbles across the border, or somebody deliberately flies here from Russia or Korea, and has a baby here, even though they are not “subject to the jurisdiction of the United States” they automatically become citizens.

A lot of other countries have been abusing that privilege to make an automatic retirement or automatic citizenship for people who certainly shouldn’t have it.

We’re the last developed country in the world to do it. We need to take a second look at it and put it to a stop.
