Current and Former Mayors Across Oregon Stand with Lori Chavez-DeRemer to Denounce False Ads

Happy Valley, Ore. – Current and former Mayors from across the state of Oregon are standing up with Lori Chavez-DeRemer, repudiating recent paid ads that falsely accuse her of misspending tax dollars as the Mayor of Happy Valley.

“These statements have been refuted time after time,” Chavez-DeRemer said. “It’s disappointing that supporters of Representative Bynum would put out these false accusations that have already been proven false by the City of Happy Valley.”

The Mailers, which are paid for by the Democratic Party of Oregon, have been circulating around House District 51 and describe Mayor Chavez-DeRemer of spending tax dollars for perks on herself. The Mailers are quoted with “she spent our tax dollars on herself to play golf, ride in limos and take trips to places like San Francisco, Austin and Nashville.” The citations only include the City of Happy Valley and do not include any specific council minutes with these claims. The same claims were made in 2016 and proven false by the City of Happy Valley.

Steve Callaway, Mayor of nearby Hillsboro, expressed his concern and disappointment with the ads.

“Simply put, these ads are false and misleading,” Steve Callaway said. “As Mayors, we work hard every day to hear the issues and concerns of our citizens. Deceitful attacks like these have no place in politics and it insults the intelligence of voters.”

The list of bipartisan Mayors joining Lori in denouncing the false ads are the following:

Shane Bemis, Mayor of Gresham
Steve Callaway, Mayor of Hillsboro
Lou Ogden, Mayor of Tualatin
John Cook, Mayor of Tigard
Kent Studebaker, Mayor of Lake Oswego
Dan Holladay, Mayor of Oregon City
Teri Lenahan, Mayor of North Plains
Ted Tosterud, Mayor of Fairview
Dave Drotzmann, Mayor of Hermiston
George Endicott, Mayor of Redmond
Michael Cape, Mayor of Amity
Scott Burge, Mayor of Scappoose
Jerry Willey, Former Mayor of Hillsboro
Rob Wheeler, Former Mayor of Happy Valley
Diana Helm, Former Mayor of Damascus
Krisanna Clark-Endicott, Former Mayor of Sherwood

“Lori has dedicated her entire public service career bringing communities together,” Former Damascus Mayor Diana Helm said. “Mayor Chavez-DeRemer is an unpaid Mayor who dedicates her time to volunteer service.”

Although Representative Bynum has stayed silent on the recent attack ads, she did congratulate Lori on her 8 years as Mayor during her first State of the City Address on Facebook.

“Sending a hearty congratulations to Mayor Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Happy Valley Business Alliance on the first annual State of the City address #welldone #HD51,” Bynum said on Facebook, posted on January 17, 2018.

The list of bipartisan mayors is indicative of the 14 years of service Mayor Chavez-DeRemer has dedicated to her community. Lori is joined by mayors across the state of Oregon that know her firsthand.

“The bipartisan support I’ve received from my fellow Mayors is humbling. Chavez-DeRemer concluded. “I have worked hard every day to build relationships and fight for families to live in a better community.”
