Justin Hwang Earns Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council Endorsement

By Justin Hwang for Oregon Senate

Gresham, Ore. – The Justin Hwang campaign earned a key endorsement from the Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council for Senate District 25. The Council is the leading voice for approximately 40,000 skilled trades union members belonging to 30 different affiliated trade unions in Oregon.

“The Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council is excited to stand with Justin Hwang for State Senate. He has demonstrated a desire to learn about our industry, diverse membership, and to understand our members’ issues and priorities,” said Robert Camarillo, executive secretary of OSBCTC. “His fresh perspective on policy stood out to us. We see him as a long-time partner in the State Legislature. He will be a strong advocate for prevailing wage, labor standards, and other values of the Building Trades.”

In addition to representing their union members, OSBCTC represents apprentices and journey level workers, who are engaged in building and construction throughout Oregon. OSBCTC member unions invest more than $15 million annually for training their apprentices and provide a debt free education. Students are also able to earn college credit while they work, which helps to open doors to a variety of industry related careers.

“The endorsement of the Oregon State Building and Construction Trades Council means a lot to me and I’m honored to receive their support for my campaign,” said Justin Hwang. “OSBCTC is a champion in providing their members with family wage jobs, retirement security, full family health care. As a small business owner, I employ more than 100 employees throughout Oregon and would want to provide nothing less for my own employees than what OSBCTC provides for theirs. I stand with our trade unions and look forward to being a champion for prevailing wage and policy that creates family wage jobs with retirement security and full family health care in the legislature.”

Justin has lived in East Multnomah County since 2003 and sits on multiple boards, including the Mount Hood Community College Foundation, Mount Hood Medical Center Foundation, Korean Society of Oregon, and Korean War Memorial Association. He is also the chair of the Korean Day Association, as well as a member of the Gresham Chamber and the Gresham Rotary.
