SJM 3 compensates landowners for wildfire damage

On Wednesday March 31st, the Senate Natural Resources and Wildlife Recovery Committee will hear a bill to reimburse Oregon landowners for wildfire damage that was caused by fires originating on federal land.

Oregon State Senator Fred Girod’s bill is SJM 3 “Urges establishment and funding of federal system to reimburse state and local government property owners and private property owners for damage to real property that results from spreading of wildfires originating on federal lands.”

After Oregon’s historic damage from the 2020 wildfires, the issue of compensation have become a major topic among rural Oregonians.
