House leader issues three inquiries over big vaccine data breach

By Oregon House Republican Caucus,

Letter from Representative Christine Drazan to State Chief Operating Officer
———————-

Katy Coba
State Chief Operating Officer, DAS Director Department of Administrative Services
155 Cottage St. NE
Salem, Oregon 97301-3972

Dear Director Coba,

The recent dissemination of state employee’s personal health information sent to media outlets, including The Statesman Journal and The Oregonian, by your department’s external relations director is a significant breach of confidentiality. I respectfully request that you provide a detailed and timely response to the following questions:

1) What are the current confidential data handling policies in the Department of Administrative Services’ employee manual and by position title, who has access to confidential information such as state employees’ private health information?

2) Why did the external relations director have confidential employee information on their computer?

3) What specific changes does your department plan to implement to ensure this never happens again?
You have a duty to protect confidential information. All employees, including state employees, deserve to have their information protected.

Thank you for your time and attention to this important matter. My caucus and I look forward to your responsiveness.

Sincerely,

Christine Drazan
House Republican Leader
