Wheeler’s Rose City reality check

By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,

Mayor Ted Wheeler is feeling the heat from the Rose City’s residents, families, and businesses, leaving Portland because of the high tax rate and cost of living – among other issues.

Portlanders are shouldering the 2nd highest city tax burden in the country, only behind New York City, as was recently covered here on Oregon Catalyst.

KPTV-12 reported that Wheeler invited local agency leaders to meet today to discuss putting a hold on some of the proposed new taxes and fees coming at residents from every direction.

As if inflation, higher food, gas and housing costs weren’t enough, Portlanders could be hit with a new capital gains tax, a 14% electricity rate hike, garbage fee increase, Tri-Met transit fare increases, and many more.

The Portland City Council will cover their proposed fee increases their budget meeting tonight. To tune in or give your input, check out the details here.
