Rep. Helfrich: Bills to help veterans

Oregon Legislature Passes Bill Benefiting Oregon Veterans and Active-Duty Military Members

By Oregon State Representative Jeff Helfrich,

The Oregon legislature will conclude the 2023 legislative session. A handful of policies benefiting our state’s veterans and active-duty military members are among the hundreds of bills passed this session.

These bills include:

  • House Bill 2144: Expands qualification for fallen hero roadside memorials.
  • House Bill 2147: Ensures unclaimed veterans’ remains are properly interred.
  • House Bill 2865: Increases military leave of absence to 21 days for current National Guard and military members who are public employees.

“I am a Veteran myself and know the sacrifice our military members make to serve our country,” said Representative Jeff Helfrich (R-Hood River). “While I will never know the ultimate sacrifice some Oregonians paid, I am proud that I was able to support legislation to honor these heroes.”

These bills now move to the Governor’s desk for her signature.
