On Monday night Salem City Council will be having a City Council meeting on a $27 million employee wage tax (ordinance 12-23).
Since many cities and counties have maxed out raising property taxes, they are now increasing turning to NEW types of taxes to bring in more money.
Here is a recent trend on new types of taxes to soak hurting taxpayers.:
• In 2023, Salem drafts an wage tax (Ordinance 12-23).
• In 2023, Multnomah County tried to pass a capital gains tax (26-238).
• In 2022, Josephine County tried to pass a sales tax (17-112).
• In 2020, Clackamas, Washington and Multnomah County tried to passed an income tax increase (26-216).
• In 2020, Multnomah County passed an income tax increase (26-214).
• In 2019, Hood River tried a targeted sales tax.
• In 2018, Portland had a business tax ballot measure (26-201).
The local politicians are always tinkering with new forms of tax increases to keep the tax cash flowing in non-stop.
*** If you live or work in Salem, please submit your opinion against the wage tax ***
1. Oppose Ordinance 12-23 wage tax (.814% of your wages)
2. We do not need a tax during a near-historic high inflation/labor shortage crisis
3. Always be polite, respectful, kind when contacting your elected officials
4. Share how high taxes/inflation impact you
