Former Portland City Commissioner Jo Ann Hardesty (who led the charge on Portland’s de-funding police by more than $12 million) has been awarded a $680,000 settlement with a case against the Portland Police Association.  A hit-and-run victim told 911 that they suspected Hardesty was the one responsible for the accident, a premature allegation that turned out not to be true.

Against policy, the Police leaked the information to the media.

Although Hardesty has many critics, the case centered around Police knowingly breaking the rules, which is a violation that could impact any citizen of any political stripe who is innocent.   This upholds the principle that everyone is innocent until proven guilty.

Hardesty also won a $5,000 settlement with the City on a related matter.
