After Portland Public School teachers conducted a strike that lasted three weeks, we now have school janitors and cafeteria workers asking for higher pay, which could lead to another strike or public protest.  SEIU Local 503 is leading the negotiations.

It should be noted that the previous Portland teacher strike asked for nearly hundreds of millions of dollars that the school district (as well as Oregonian Editorial Board, Governor Kotek) said was next to impossible.   That former strike is causing lawmakers to call for more funding and possibly higher taxes.  Now we encounter more school staff adding their financial demands to the table.
