Oregon Senate Republican Leaders blast systemic failure as Coos County voters confront ballot delay crisis

By the Oregon Senate Republican Office,

SALEM, Ore. – Today, Senate Republicans are voicing strong outrage as Coos County voters face yet another election crisis with delayed ballots, adding to a troubling pattern of failures in Oregon’s election system. After repeated issues in 2024 alone, Oregon’s election integrity is in serious question as voters encounter roadblocks to exercising their right to vote.

“It’s beyond belief that Oregon’s election system has spiraled to this level of dysfunction. After repeated problems, Coos County voters are now forced to jump through hoops just to exercise their basic right to vote. This isn’t just an inconvenience—it’s an outright betrayal of public trust in a system that’s supposed to safeguard democracy, not disrupt it,” said Senate Republican Leader Daniel Bonham (R-The Dalles).

“Our constituents deserve better than bureaucratic failures and postal mishaps. This should not happen in Oregon, especially in a state with so much experience in vote-by-mail. We’re now forced to use private campaign funds to ensure every voter in Coos County has the opportunity to vote and to overcome obstacles created by these repeated mistakes,” said Senator Dick Anderson (R-Lincoln City), who represents a large portion of Coos County.

“To every Coos County voter: Don’t let these failures stop you from making your voice heard,” added Senator David Brock Smith (R-Port Orford), who also represents portions of Coos County.

The Oregon Senate Republican Caucus calls on the Oregon Secretary of State, Coos County election officials, and the USPS to immediately resolve this unacceptable delay and ensure every voter receives their ballot without further interference. Affected voters should contact the Coos County Elections Office at 541-396-7610 or visit in person at 250 N. Baxter St. in Coquille to obtain a replacement ballot and vote in this critical election.
