Sen. Bonham: Democrats share tax raising plan

Before the session even starts, Democrats share plans to raise our taxes

By Oregon State Senator Daniel Bonham,

They say if someone tells you who they are, listen to them. The new session hasn’t even fully started for the Democrats supermajority power grab to already show in a real way.

And they are going straight for our wallets. My colleague spent no time to send out a newsletter after the election on why he was excited about receiving the supermajority. Instead of talking about making Oregonians’ lives better – by making it more affordable, improving their quality of life and more, my colleague decided he was most excited about his new ability to … raise taxes.

And I quote, “That supermajority means that Democrats will not be held hostage by Republicans to pass needed tax increases. We can go it alone if we need to, provided we can muster all of us to vote the same way.”

Talk about saying your inside thoughts out loud. This statement once again shows how out of touch our politicians have become. Our communities are overtaxed, overworked and struggling to make ends meet. Oregon is already unaffordable at every level and our new supermajority is gloating on their ability to make it worse. It is shameless.

I will always stand by my assertion that our government has a spending problem, not a revenue problem. That is why I will continue to be the voice of reason for the everyday working Oregonian. Regardless of the numbers, I will show up to work everyday to fight for sound policies that solve problems WITHOUT going after our residents’ hard-earned money.
