The Last Word on Kamala Harris

I Joe-Biden-promise* you – listen this is serious, I’m not kidding, this isn’t just hyperbole – this will be the last time I am critical of former Vice-president Kalama Harris – not a joke. Look folks, words matter. This isn’t malarkey. I’m serious here.

But let’s get to the point and it is best characterized by a recent exchange on FOXNews as described Newsbreak.com:

Political strategist Lucy Caldwell clashed with conservative pundit Caroline Downery after she described former Vice-President Kamala Harris as ‘vapid.’

During a Sunday panel segment on Fox News Caldwell revealed that she was ‘not happy’ that corporations like ABC News and Meta decided to cave to President Donald Trump by settling lawsuits.

Downery responded by pointing to a CBS 60 Minutes interview that was allegedly edited in a way that helped Harris during the election.

“’We saw the with the 60 Minutes interview, which many Americans perceived to be election interference, because it was deceptively doctoring a clip to make the candidate for president appear more coherent and less vapid than she was,’ Downery said.

“’I’m so shocked that Caroline would use as a woman in the public eye, Caroline’ Caldwell shot back. ‘I really think you should be careful, no matter whether they are political opponents of yours or not, about casually using terms like vapid and describing women in public eye that was [sic]’

“’I think that’s very serious,’ she continued. ‘Take issue with CBS and how they edited that interview. Take issue with Kamala Harris’s policies. Do not come on this show and contribute to that kind culture. I think that is really serious.’

“’The impression, because of the way those clips were edited, Lucy, is that Kamala Harris did not come off nearly as intelligent ordinarily as she did on the clips that were ‘edited,’ she argued.”

“’That was not what using a term like vapid means, Caroline,” Caldwell replied. “And you know, that as a woman in the public eye that is not what that is, not the connotation and the impression that people are left with when they say vapid.’”

What a dog fight – no pun intended. But just to be clear Ms. Downery was one hundred percent correct in using the term vapid to describe Ms. Harris. My trusty on-line version of Merriam Webster Dictionary defines “vapid: as follows:

:lacking flavor, zest, interest, animation, or spirit: FLAT. DULL

Dictionary.com – without liveliness or spirit; dull or tedious

Or how about: “ showing no intelligence or imagination:” – Cambridge Dictionary

Or: Reserve the adjective vapid for the person in your office who brings nothing to the table, except maybe the doughnuts. Vapid is an adjective to describe someone or something that is dull or uninspiring.”Vocabulary.com

It’s unclear whether Ms. Caldwell was demanding that Ms. Downery not use the term “vapid” when referring to women in general, progressive women in general or Ms. Harris in particular.  Or more precisely, that it is easier to be offended by a word than it is to defend the indefensible.  Regardless, if the shoe fits, wear it. This was just another way to distract from the fact that Ms. Harris is, in fact, vapid – Ms. Harris is precisely vapid. The word salads, the lack of any insight into any of the issues for which she to take the lead, the I-have-a-vision, eyes-to-heaven, tent-preacher cadence as she recites her lines in what she intends to convey the image of a deep thinking leader of mankind, but instead conveys the image of a not-too-bright Hollywood actor reciting similar lines. There is not a genuine bone in her body, not an original thought in her brain.

Ms. Harris should be thanking President Donald Trump for winning the election and thus saving her from almost instantly replacing former President Joe Biden as the worst president in the history of the United States. Recently Democrat strategist James Carville wondered aloud whether there might be a “plant” in the progressive wing of the Democrat party to see how many stupid things they could embrace and referred to them as “stunningly stupid.” In another broadside, Mr. Carville** referred to nominating Ms. Harris as the Democrat nominee for President as being the moral equivalent of naming your seventh string quarterback as the starter for your Superbowl team. He might add to that criticism how many stupid people they could embrace – starting with Ms. Harris and adding her frenetic running mate, Minnesota Gov. Tampon Tim Walz. I would not allow my grandchildren in a room where Mr. Walz in on the loose for fear of traumatizing them for life.

But, be that as it is, it is doubtful that Ms. Harris is going to fade away. Quite frankly she should run for governor of California. As of today, she is the odds on favorite to win the Democrat nomination. And given this is California – the last bastion of progressivism – she should win the general election. Of course the Republicans will assist by putting up either some fading sports or movie star, or some person that things that (s)he is the reincarnation of Mr. Trump and think that bad mouthing your opponent is a killer strategy while not recognizing that, in fact, you have to put forward simple solutions to the most important problems – jobs, immigration, economic well-being and public safety. Arizona tried it twice and wound up giving away the governor’s election and the latest senate race.

And if elected, she will fail and the progressives of California will be to blame. It is popular wisdom that addiction to progressive policies won’t come until you hit rock bottom. The race is on between California, Oregon and Washington at wo which state tanks first. I’m betting on California because “rock bottom” is standing right there ready, willing and unburdened by what has gone before. They deserve each other.

*Whatever Mr. Biden said was simply what was on the Teleprompter. It was always “true” until it wasn’t. As a reminder, think about how many times Mr. Biden swore he would not pardon his son, Hunter, not commute any sentence he might be given. Thus my commitment to avoid further condemnation of Ms. Harris is “true” until it isn’t.

** I’ve always like James Carville’s Cajun renditions of what is happening in America – particularly when he is unimpeded by a specific candidate. Mr. Carville and his wife, former Republican analyst Mary Matalin used to host a colorful tour-de-force on the difference between Republicans and Democrats with Mr. Carville noted mostly for his colorful language and Ms. Matalin’s references to Mr. Carville’s reptilian features.. Somebody should pair Mr. Carville with Senator John Kennedy (R-LA) and let the two Cajuns entertain us with the foibles of political America.
