SALEM, Ore. – Today, Rep. Alek Skarlatos (R – Winston), Rep. Ed Diehl (R – Stayton), Rep. Virgle Osborne (R – Roseburg), and Rep. Darin Harbick (R – Rainbow) issued the following statement regarding the Democrat Party’s resistance to the enforcement of responsible immigration policy.

“We are deeply disappointed by the out-of-touch views of today’s Democrat Party that labels the majority of Americans as extremist simply for supporting the enforcement of our immigration laws against violent illegal aliens. Securing our borders and upholding the rule of law to hold violent criminals accountable is not extreme—it’s simple common sense.

“For the first time in decades more Americans identify as Republicans rather than Democrats. That is no coincidence. The Democrat Party has abandoned responsible immigration policy and lost touch with the concerns of hardworking Americans across our state and our nation. The failure of Democrat administrations to address the crisis happening on our borders and in our communities is one of the many reasons why Democrats have been relegated to the minority in Congress and across the country.

“Today’s Democrat Party is a far cry from the position of even former President Barack Obama who deported more than 3 million illegal aliens.

“It’s time for our Democrat friends to recognize that enforcing immigration laws isn’t about partisanship—it’s about the protection and security of our communities—including law abiding immigrant communities.”
