The Oregon Senate passed Senate Bill 97-A this week which increased the marriage license fee. SB 97-A increased this marriage license from $10 to a very big $35 — which represents a 250% hike!

This SB 97-A marriage fee hike comes as young families are leaving Oregon.  They and younger citizens make up the majority of the 131,000 people who left Oregon last year.   There was around 120,000 who immigrated into Oregon, but among those coming into the State it was more retirement age citizens moving in.

This is why more people are dying in Oregon than being born.

The SB 97-A marriage fee increase is being used to fund conciliation and mediation accounts within the county.

The marriage fee hike came at the request of Chief Justice Meagan A. Flynn for Judicial Department, and was submitted by the Oregon Senate President.
