Homeless have their own medics (911 won’t respond)

Independent reporter Kevin Dahlgren and photographer Tara Faul called 911 when they witnessed a homeless individual experiencing severe Fentanyl withdrawal in downtown Portland. Upon contacting the 911 dispatchers, they were informed that they were on hold due to a lack of available emergency services and would have to wait for an ambulance to respond. After waiting an hour, a formerly homeless woman stepped in to help, providing first aid and taking it upon herself to care for the individual going through detox. When you call 911 and they tell you they probably won’t show. We found a homeless man detoxing off fentanyl and covered in feces in a porta potty. @tarafaul503 called 911.
