Unions vote to sucker-punch their own employers

Here are three ways Oregon unions are voting and pushing to hurt their own employers that pay their salary:

#1. Union support for Measure 118 tax:  Union’s UAW and Teamsters Local 206 have both endorsed the enormous $3 billion tax on corporations known as Measure 118.  This Measure 118 tax slams businesses even when they are not making a profit, making it one of the most punishing taxes in America.   Having businesses pay up $3 billion in new taxes means these companies will be cutting employees, freezing pay and raising prices.   Unions will be hurt.  Yet, unions are pushing it.

#2. Unions are blocking Kroger-Albertson merger.  Two leading grocery giants are WalMart and Amazon and both are non-union (Amazon is mostly non-union).   Kroger (Fred Meyer) and Albertson’s are union and in order to survive they feel compelled to join forces with a merger.  Yet, unions are saying no.

Take a look at the chart below and see for yourself how unions can compete if they do not merge.

#3. Unions aim to unionize cannabis/marijuana shops with Measure 119.   Unions are supporting Measure 119 which help cannabis businesses become unionized by silencing business opposition.   The one thing that makes this market completely different is that they compete and are losing to the black market sales of marijuana.  Oregon legal marijuana comes with high taxes and high regulation — the illegal black market has neither.  This is why many marijuana stores are going out of business. Pot sales are down nearly 20%!   Why raise prices/costs on a sinking industry?  Why can’t these labor unions go after the illegal criminal cartels that are destroying their very occupation — instead of demonizing shop owners?

The Oregon State Police recently busted a $6 million dollar illegal marijuana grow operation that was running in 6 different counties in Oregon (Clatsop, Columbia, Linn, Marion, Multnomah,Polk).
