Portland 2025 = electric rate +5% , water rate +6%, gas +10 (cents)

By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,

It’s going to cost more to fill the coffeepot and flush the toilet in Portland this summer after the city implements its highest water-sewer increase in more than 10 years. Rates are expected to increase in July by 6.34 percent, boosting the average household’s cost from $150.74 a month to $160.29, or about $1,900 a year. And rates are likely to increase even more during the next five years because of economic pressures from rising costs, inflation and tariffs, according to the city’s interim Water Bureau director. The last increase higher than this one occurred in 2011, when residents saw rates rise by 8.17 percent, the news outlet reported. At that time, the average household paid about $84 a month or $1,000 a year.

This comes after Portland General Electric announced a 5% electrical rate hike beginning January 2025 and Portland re-enacted its 10-cent gas tax for another decade.

This comes as the Portland Mayor is proposing a 25% increase in parking meters and a 100% increase in the Uber tax.

This helps explain why one measure shows that Portlanders need to make at least $100,000 to live within the City.
