In the same short period a suspect at Portland State University stabbed a woman in the back with a hatchet.  It was unprovoked.  It was a senseless daytime attack.

More serious, was the Salem man at a homeless shelter who stabbed 11 people in a rampage.  Many of the victims were people trying to stop the man.

Last month there was a stabbing on an Amtrak train in Klamath County.  The suspect appeared to be disconnected from reality.

These incidents show signs of mental illness and homelessness, something that is only growing worse in Oregon.  It also shows that citizens have little protection from a stabbing or stopping a stabbing without firearms.
