Lars Larson: ODOT strikes back

The government in Oregon and specifically ODOT have decided to retaliate against citizens after state lawmakers…both democrats and republicans…denied the agency cash from what would have been the biggest tax increase in history.

That’s inexcusable.

Republican lawmakers proposed a plan that would have preserved basic ODOT services with NO new taxes. It failed.

Democrats hold supermajorities in the legislature and even THEY could not get the votes.

So what does ODOT do? As you’re hearing (this morning) on the news, “senior positions” will be preserved…so white collar paper pushers keep their jobs.

But hundreds of worker-bees get the axe.

And ODOT’s not shy about its threats:

If forests catch fire, ODOT assistance in evacuations…cut.

Snow plowing in winter…fuggetabout it.

Potholes? Don’t expect repairs.

Maintenance workers and bridge inspectors take the hit.

And the same 6-figure administrators who made that billion dollar budget boo boo that flooded ODOT with red ink? They keep their fat salaries.

Imagine if you worked at a private company and workers told the boss, “if we don’t get what we demand, we will make customers suffer”.

Pink slips would fly.
