Governor Tina Kotek and former Deschutes County Sheriff Kent van der Kamp both faced recall petitions recently started in Eastern Oregon, but the sheriff resigned before the measure could more forward, according to KTVZ. The number of recall attempts in Oregon peaked in 2024 when petitions targeted 32 elected officials and voters kicked 19 out of office. That’s more recall petitions launched in any other U.S. state. However, this year that number dropped to only three elected officials targeted by recall petitions. Among those seeking removal of van der Kamp were employees in the sheriff’s office, but he resigned shortly after the recall was announced. The petition against Kotek will require William Minnix of Oregon For The People to gather 293,000 valid voter signatures by Oct. 27. If successful, the governor would have five days to resign before a recall election would move forward.
