Gas tax vote postponed (3rd time).

First, it was Governor Kotek forcing lawmakers to come in on Labor Day weekend so she could ram down a billion dollar gas tax/wage tax bill while Oregonians were on vacation.   That was delayed by several days because the Democrat leadership failed to properly muster the number of lawmakers to achieve a quorum.   People traveled across Oregon to testify at a hearing that was postponed.   When a hearing was held, Governor Kotek did not even bother to interrupt her own vacation plans to attend her own bill hearing.

The second gas tax delay occurred a few days later when the Senate could not muster the votes needed to pass the gas tax, due in part, to an illness of a single senator.   That delayed the tax vote by two weeks.

Now, the senate has postponed the vote, a third time, to September 29th, again referencing the medical issues involving Oregon Senator Chris Gorsek who needs more time to recover.

There is also capitol speculation that in addition to the absent senator that there may be trouble in securing the final votes even if the Senator was present.  Senator Mark Meek was a public no vote during the 6-month 2025 Session.  He still may be a no vote.  We won’t know until the vote happens.
