Remembering Stan Baumhofer, citizen extraordinaire

At age 97, Stan Baumhofer passed away this week.

Stan had served on countless political campaigns (treasurer/volunteer) over the years and even served as an aide to Portland Mayor Connie McCready in the 1960s.

Even in his 90s, he continued to serve Oregon by running for State Representative twice, while also volunteering at the local hospital and writing articles (A call to make mental health treatment more effective, Make Oregon livable again).

He was once deemed the oldest candidate in America.

Stan received some media attention when he was robbed in broad daylight on the streets of Portland as he was making a deposit at an ATM.  He lost $1,000.   Stan refused to accept any donations for his loss, but rather used the occasion to raise money for the local police charity to honor the police who helped him during the robbery.   Stan is just one of the many angels who make our lives better but often go unrecognized.   Today, he is recognized and honored.
