Lars Larson: Kotek’s tax trickery

The Northwest Nonsense

Democrats remain desperate to pry loose billions in new taxes from Oregonians.

And their newest move in the upcoming legislative session aims to force voters to decide the fate of a big tax measure sooner.

Remember that last fall, Democrats passed a 4 billion dollar tax and fee hike.

Citizens immediately gathered three times the number of signatures needed to refer that to the ballot, despite efforts by Governor Tina Kotek to sabotage the referendum.

That means taxes Kotek counted on in January won’t start coming in till 2027 if voters don’t kill them altogether

Kotek considered asking lawmakers to revoke the tax hike, till her own lawyers told Tina that violates the Oregon constitution.

So, democrat leadership now plan to pass a law moving the vote from the big turnout November election to a lower turnout vote in May.

All these antics by Kotek and company ignores some simple facts

ODOT has more than 3 billion a year to fund highway operations

ODOT has a history of lying about the cost of projects till its too late to cancel like Abernathy Bridge and the soon to fail Interstate Bridge.

No one gets fired for this dishonesty and Kotek refuses to order the agency she controls to rebudget and live within its means.

All of this should make voters angry enough to kill Tina’s taxes and demand accountability…as well as giving Kotek a pink slip in November.
