Lars Larson: Gov’t ignores the will of the people

The Northwest Nonsense

You would think Oregon lawmakers would get the message by now.

Based on the public hearing at the legislature, they HAVE NOT.

When Governor Tina Kotek dragged her majority democrat lawmakers back for a special session she only wanted one thing…a massive, 4 billion dollar tax hike to keep her union friends at ODOT happy.

Only democrats voted for it…because republicans knew the public they represent hated the tax hike.

Citizens quickly gathered 250-thousand voter signatures to put the jacked up tax to a vote in November. That’s the biggest, strongest rejection by citizen initiative in Oregon history…and it came despite Governor Kotek deliberately delaying signature gathering for 6 weeks.

No wonder Kotek is the sixth most unpopular Governor in America in a new poll.

Now, she wants the tax vote moved out of the November where she is running for reelection to the low turnout May primary.

That’s what Senate Bill 1599 would do. Citizens got one shot to testify on the bill yesterday and 25-hundred testified in writing against it.

Kotek doesn’t hear the public or doesn’t care. Democrat lawmakers, about the same.

And Oregon’s “representative” government DOES NOT represent.

That’s the Rose City Rap. Join me at noon on KXL for 4 hours of Honestly provocative talk. I’m Lars Larson
