Lars Larson: Kotek brags on fake graduation numbers

Not surprisingly, Tina Kotek wants to keep her job.

Unfortunately, Kotek now has one of the lowest approval ratings among Governors in America.

So, Kotek took to social media this week to brag about Oregon’s high school graduation rate of 83 percent, which Kotek calls “a new record”.

It’s a sham claim and Kotek knows it.

Several years ago, Oregon used the pandemic as an excuse to erase graduation requirements.  By law, students graduate from high school even if they don’t know how to read, write or count.

The best measure of student success, the National Assessment of Educational Progress.  More than half the kids in Oregon can’t read.  More than half can’t do math.

They graduate anyway.

Think of that diploma as a “participation trophy”.

Critics say we don’t spend enough money.

Oregon spends about 18-thousand dollars per student, per year on K-12 schools…and gets garbage results.

If that’s Kotek’s campaign, expect a new Governor after the November elections.

That’s the Rose City Rap.  Join me at noon on KXL for 4 hours of Honestly provocative talk.  I’m Lars Larson
