ODOT saves $$ by not paying 130 “ghost” employees

Kotek and ODOT said last fall, when they passed the gas tax, that people may indeed die because ODOT did not have the money to repair unsafe roads or plow dangerous snowfall roads, but ODOT had money for everything else, just not your safety.

Now, ODOT and Kotek have just rebalanced their budget and identified $80 million in savings.

Part of that savings is from firing 130 non-existent employees who are considered vacant positions.   By not paying these “ghost” employees, ODOT can save as much as $14 million, according to our modest calculation.

This justifies why the Taxpayers Association of Oregon worked so hard, with others, to put the gas tax referendum on the ballot.

We spared millions of Oregonians from a gas tax price hike and DMV fee hike.

As for ODOT, they went on a long-overdue diet.

That ODOT diet saved taxpayers tens of millions without any sacrifice.

How much more of the Oregon State Government can go on a diet?

The Taxpayers Association of Oregon says much more can be cut.

— Now that the gas tax has made the ballot, let us work on putting the petition to Abolish the Oregon Death Tax also on the ballot.
