If the Measure 120 gas tax should be voted down, the politicians are already working on Plan B.  In Portland the local politicians aim to raise tens of millions through a road tax on your sewer bill.

Portland Finance and Governance Committee voted 10-2 to advance the new road tax idea.  The vote moves the bill to the regular agenda for an expected May vote among the City Council.  The road fee is a $12 monthly tax on your water bill. This $12 monthly road fee is on top of the 10-cent city gas tax that Portlanders pay at the pump for roads and the $112 Multnomah car fee (2/y) that also goes to roads.

This move comes as big $4.3 billion statewide gas tax is expected to fail at the May ballot.
