81% of our supporters favor impeachment power

In 2021, the Taxpayer Association of Oregon Foundation did a survey of supporters on 24 top pro-liberty/pro-reform ideas being discussed in Oregon and around the nation.   Favoring impeachment power for statewide officials came in among the most favored ideas in the survey.   As a result, the Taxpayers Association of Oregon supports Measure 115 on the Oregon ballot which gives lawmakers impeachment powers over statewide officials and would have Oregon join 49 other states in their impeachment power.

The Taxpayers Association of Oregon was the ONLY one to submit a support argument in the Statewide Voters Pamphlet.

Coincidentally, there was only one argument against Measure 115 in Voter Pamphlet.  This came from a very well-respected conservative voice of Noah Robinson who is also a Republican State Senate candidate in District #2.  As far we are concerned, this interesting moment is a win-win.   Conservatives are debating a big constitutional issue that no one else is talking about and they are doing it based upon principled ideas.  By the way, the Taxpayers Association of Oregon is the only one to submit an opposition argument against another statewide measure with Measure 119 that silences business owners (and we are also the only voter argument for many local ballot measures as well, #26-250, #26-254, #34-341, #34-340).   Conservatives are having a debate in a place and time when liberals do not — just ask RFK Jr. how he was treated.

This year alone brought scandal stories to two different statewide officials — Governor Tina Kotek and Attorney General Dianne Rosenbuam.  It is as they are providing free advertising for the campaign.  Oregon has a non-stop abuse-of-power problem, we should have tools at our disposal if it gets even worse.

We encourage a yes vote for Measure 115 and to empower our elected representatives with impeachment powers as similar to 49 other states.
