$1.8 billion pension hole = higher taxes

The just announced, $1.8 billion dollar government pension price tag will impact every major state and local government body in Oregon as most participate in PERS.

The politicians in Oregon created one of the most expensive pension systems in America.  The U.S. Bureau of Labor called their Tier 1 benefits, “one of the most generous pension plans ever devised”. Now we are paying the price.

About ten years ago, when costs spiked, the politicians created a plan to reduce costs by spreading out payments into the future (which made it more expensive in the long term). Here we are now in the future in 2024 being stuck with that costly decision.

Expect new and increased taxes/fees from the state to the county to the school district level in 2025.

Already Oregonians witnessed over 50 local tax ballot measures on the recent November ballot.  Oregon voters rejected most of them.

Expect more to come.
