Lars Larson: Are you ready to live in the dark?

By Lars Larson
NW and national radio host,

Ask yourself this: are you prepared to spend some time shivering in the dark?

Some of us have been warning for years about the electric blackouts coming soon to the Pacific Northwest.

Now, we hear a new warning from this week’s meeting of the regional government agency charged with keeping the lights on.

Consultants say computer data centers now chew up ten percent of all the region’s power and they forecast a doubling of that number, at least, in the next five years.

Data centers let you post those cute pictures of your cat on social media or make that next Amazon order.

Energy consultant Robert Cromwell told a hearing on Wednesday either put up more generators or we’re going to see what the power industry calls “rotating load shedding”…where your lights and heat go out because the kilowatt cupboard ran bare.

Idiots elected to public office push for more electric homes and more electric cars and, get this, a quarter billion dollars in tax breaks to bring in more power-hog data centers…all while they push to tear out dams, ban nuclear and end even clean natural gas generation …with no clue as to what replaces it.

I can promise you this…get yourself one of them wind-up radios and maybe we can keep you entertained in the dark.
