Counting our Christmas blessings in Oregon, despite setbacks

Things may look intractable and overwhelming for Oregon.

Yet, remember Christmas is full of historic changes.

• The Christmas child, Jesus Christ, was born into Rome — one of the world’s greatest, strongest and most feared empires.  Today, Rome is gone, and followers of Jesus are bigger than the original Roman empire and bigger collectively than most nation’s on earth.

• During Christmas Eve, George Washington crossed the Delaware River and surprised the British.  It helped change the course of the war for our sacred independence.

• During Christmastime in WWII, U.S. general George Patton issued a desperate wartime prayer among all the troops for success against incredible setbacks inflicted by the Nazis.   Soon after, the tide miraculously turned in the Battle of the Bulge.

• Christmas is always near the Winter Solstice for the Northern Hemisphere where we hit the year’s darkest day, and henceforth every day after will be brighter longer than the day before until summer hits.

History is full of unexpected changes.  America is full of unexpected changes.  This too applies to Oregon.

Be hopeful for 2025, anything can happen.
