SB 545 Volunteer Firefighter Tax Credit

Senate Bill (SB545) allows any volunteer firefighter who helps shall receive a tax credit.

The Senate Bill (SB545) summary reads, “Establishes an income tax credit for volunteer firefighters.”

Volunteer firefighters’ tax credit will allow those who volunteer their time and service to stop fires to receive a $1,000 credit on taxes.

A reward for those who are willing to make an extreme sacrifice to save Oregon from burning.

The Senate Bill has strong bi-partisan support, with Cheif sponsors of the bill being State Senator Janeen Sollman (D), Dick Anderson (R), Sara Gelser Blouin​ (D), Fred Girod (R), State Representatives Jami Cate (R), Court Boice (R), Lucetta Elmer​ (R), Bobby Levy (R), Hai Pham​ (D), Gregory Smith (R), and  Boomer Wright (R).

The bill has also received more sponsors and support from State Senator Lew Frederick (D), Jeff Golden (D), David Brock Smith (R), Suzanne Weber (R), Aaron Woods (D), State Representative Dacia Grayber (D),  Cyrus Javadi (R), Rick Lewis (R), John Lively (D), Kevin Mannix (R), Emily McIntire (R), Susan McLain (D), Virgle Osborne (R), Mark Owens (R), Werner Reschke (R), and Anna Scharf (R).

A total tally of 9 out of the 30 state senators supports the bill, and 18 out of the 60 members of the state house sponsor the bill.
