Fox 12 has reported that in January, Multnomah County confirmed 42 cases of dysentery, with approximately 56% of those cases stemming from the large homeless population in downtown Portland.  Dysentery breaks out among large homeless encampments due to human waste everywhere, poor sanitation and tainted water.

Dysentery is what killed many Oregon Trail pioneers which became famous in the popular Oregon Trail computer game.

Now look at an actual modern day Oregon Trail in Portland.

According to the Multnomah County Health Department, the most concerning aspect of this strain of dysentery is its resistance to several antibiotics.  This situation is worsened by a significant budget deficit of $104 million, which has prompted a Clackamas County commissioner to call for an audit of Multnomah County. Furthermore, the city is already experiencing warning signs of an “urban doom loop.” With limited funding and potential economic stagnation, Portland now faces the challenge of an antibiotic-resistant strain of dysentery.

The homeless in Oregon have also caused a syphilis infection outbreak.
