House passes tuition benefits to asylum seekers

The Oregon House passed HB 2586 which gives the benefits of in-state tuition to asylum seekers. Already non-citizens have such benefits and also Oregon has extended it to every tribe resident of the nation’s 574 tribes making Oregon one of the most generous and taxpayer expensive tuition programs in the nation.  This generosity comes as Oregon community colleges say they are $50 million below current service levels.  Oregon top universities are seeking $500 million more.
