Audit: State made $1.6B in accounting errors

By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,

The Secretary of State audit came out and found that the State of Oregon made $1.6 billion in accounting errors.   These errors can be incorrect amounts, dates, coding or even incorrect  distribution of a fund to a wrong account.

Most concerning, is the audit looks at how agencies dealt with problems previously identified in past audits. Over 60% of the sample showed that agencies had not fully resolved the problems auditors raised. This is the worst rate in the past five years. For some agencies, problems continue for what seems like forever. Problems with Medicaid, Food Stamps (Temporary Assistance for Needy Families) and Child Care and Development Fund haven’t been resolved for more than 10 years.

This report is part of the agency’s annual ‘s “Fiscal Year 2024 Keeping Oregon Accountable Report”.
