Oops, Kotek veto reversed by Senate.

The Oregon State Senate made a surprising move against Kotek’s veto, which was overridden in a 21-6 vote.

The last time this happened was in 2011.

The veto concerned SB 875, which “The Act makes changes to the Oregon Foster Child Bill of Rights and the Oregon Foster Child Sibling Bill of Rights.”  SB 875 does this by giving more rights for foster children to have attorney access, and rights to their their personal belongings and rights making it harder be transferred out of state.  Basically, Governor Kotek wanted state agencies to have more power and flexibility in handling/disciplining foster children cases during the current overload and crisis, whereas lawmakers favored expanding the rights of the children within the system.

State Senators Anderson, Broadman, Meek, Patterson, Reynolds, and Taylor voted against the veto, while Senators Girod, Gorsek, and Thatcher had excused absences during the vote.
