Antifa suffers defeat at ICE protest (Kirk effect is real)

This weekend, the Taxpayers Association of Oregon was monitoring in person the Portland ICE protests which has drawn national news coverage.

Things have changed.

First, there have been noticeably fewer hardcore rioters (Antifa/Anarchists/other Leftists groups) present at the protest.    These violent protestors can be seen directly outside the ICE building front gate which is the heart of the protest.   There were indeed, way more people who were across the street who were spectators, capturing everything with their cell phones.   This crowd dynamic (of more gawkers than rioters) is a nightmare for rioters who depend on large crowds to join them and shield them — not sit back and record every action they do.

Second, on Friday night, during the front gate protest, a group began shouting “USA! USA! USA!”.   About a dozen college-age counter-protestors showed up with a U.S. flag to support ICE.   Many were wearing Charlie Kirk T-shirts.  Because the dozen, mostly men, matched half the size of the rioters at the ICE front gate, the rioters could not intimidate or isolate them like they have done to other critics in the past.  The rioters were helpless.   There was nothing they could do outside of screaming all kinds of profanity and insults.  The patriotic protestors did not care as they laughed and took selfies.  You had to be there to appreciate the utter humiliation this caused.

Then they unfurled a banner that thanked ICE.

Also, a young woman standing in the heart of the front gate protest and surrounded by rioters, pulled out her Bible and began sharing the Gospel.  We wish we had a picture.  This young woman was a fearless angel sharing good news to black-masked rioters who were cursing her continually.  You had to be there to appreciate the beauty of the moment.

This is the “Charlie Kirk effect” in action — young people are not afraid to stand for what they believe.   They are tired of living in fear.  The Charlie Kirk effect is happening across America.

Despite the fact that the Portland protest was a nationally news-making event, there were more people rallying for Charlie Kirk at the State Capitol last Saturday than people protesting ICE.

In fact, through-out the weekend, various patriotic protestors showed up at various times to support ICE.

On Friday, after these patriot counter-protestors left, the entire protest fell dead silent for a long time.   You could feel the defeat, confusion and bewilderment in the air.  As the Taxpayers Association of Oregon has covered dozens of riots since 2020, we have never seen such an occurrence.   Rarely are rioters dumbfounded and silenced as they were that Friday night.  And those patriot protestors came back for another night and repeated the humiliation on Saturday and Sunday.  Oh my!

The other unique occurrence was the fact that so many of the patriot protesters and conservative live-streamers were ambitious at talking to the protestors.   It was a full display of Charlie Kirk’s famous open debate.

Here is a photo of two different conversations going on outside the ICE building.  One is a black man with a MAGA hat and the other is live-streaming conservative reporter both talking to protestors.

The rioters screamed at the black MAGA-hat man, “Race traitor! Race traitor! Race traitor!” and he just smiled and shared what he believed and even challenged them on what they believed about race (they had no answer).  He was like Charlie Kirk who was calm as people berated him.  This type of exchange simply did not occur in the past five years.

Conservatives were engaging with protesters so much, that the Leftist rioters from a bullhorn had to beg their comrades to stop talking to them.  They screamed “Stop talking to the fascists!!!”,  “You are providing content for their videos and paying their salary!” and  “Please waste the time of government employees and not them!”   You know a movement is dying when they demand you stop talking to people.

Another factor in the protests, is the fact that ICE agents have been arresting rioters.   These rioters are used to Portland Police who do the arrests which means rioters often face a quick release within hours.  ICE is handling it in the way they see necessary.   By ICE arresting violent rioters over the past few weeks, it has drained their movement of their most violent protestors.    On the flip side, you may see more rioters flown in from other states to join the protest, something that happened during the Portland Covid-era rioting.

These past three days have been a huge set-back for the rioters, and Charlie Kirk has been a big factor.
