Blazers want $600M taxpayer bailout

The Rose Garden (Moda Center arena) where the Blazers play and concerts perform is owned by the city government of Portland.   It pays no property taxes.   That’s right, this $4 billion dollar valued franchise sits on tax-free public property.  Local leaders and lawmakers are discussing using a quarter billion in city/county aid to help fund bonds for the arena.  Then they wish to create a special celebrity exemption which would steer Blazer state income taxes (away from schools, police, roads) too fund their own arena costs.  Lawmakers already approved this income-tax diversion scheme for Major League Baseball players if they come to Portland.

Taxpayers have already forked over $38 million in various tax grants to remodel their ballpark that only serves 1,800 fans.

Remember, liberals have blocked proposals allowing parents to use a portion of their income tax revenue to be used for their child’s school (private school), but did pass a bill allowing wealthy major league baseball players to do it.
