Lars Larson: Kotek signs anti-democracy bill

You would have put your life in danger if you stood between Tina Kotek and the anti democracy law she signed.

I call it Anti-Democracy because it denies roughly one million Oregonians the vote on a multi billion dollar tax increase.

Governor Kotek signed a bill, yesterday, to move the vote from the November general election to the May primary.

About two million voters turn out for most general elections.

Only about one million voters show up for the primary.

Kotek, who calls herself a democrat, knows the numbers.

Only last October, Kotek demanded a 4 billion dollar tax hike just for ODOT.

She knows the public opposes that tax…both democrats and republicans.

But she wants the vote in the low-turnout primary…and off the ballot in November.

Every republican and even four democrats voted against moving the measure in violation of citizen rights outlined in the state constitution.

Kotek doesn’t give a damn about democracy. She cares about funding paychecks for her labor union allies in state government jobs…and, of course, she cares about keeping her own job.
