Higher income leave Oregon, while lower incomes move in

By Taxpayers Association of Oregon Foundation,

Recently, 677 of the most wealthiest fled Multnomah.  Those who moving into Multnomah County represent much lower income than the ones moving out.   How long can this last?

Here is how we got here:  The 2020 Preschool-for-All ballot measure raised income taxes by 1.5% to 3% while the tri-county Homeless Services Tax raised it another 1%.  Both those new taxes caused 677 of the very highest earners (among the top 1,000) to leave the county within two years.   Taxes drive away the top taxpayers, and politicians respond by raising more taxes to make up the difference.
