Socialist lawmaker didn’t pay $7,000 property taxes

Socialist Portland City Councilor Mitch Green (Dist #4) has racked up $7,328 in unpaid 2025 property taxes. The Coincilor said it was an oversight over his getting a new loan over his house.. The County Assessor sent three notices to his home, but received no payment.

Councilor Mitch Green should love paying taxes:

• He is one of the four socialist Portland City Councilors.
• He spoke at a socialist rally where the main banner was “tax the rich”. (We are taxing the rich, but it appears some rich, like Councilor Mitch Green refuse to pay.
• He voted for the $12/month street fee on Portlander’s water bill.

We have sympathy for taxpayers who have a hard time paying taxes because taxes are high in Oregon and can be extremely complicated.  We have less sympathy for those who both raise taxes and make taxes more complex and forget to pay their taxes.
